Hellesylt, Norway

Set amid impressive mountains and a beautiful fjord, UNESCO World Heritage listed Hellesylt is a must-see during your visit to Norway. Beautifully restored old farmhouses are scattered around the hills and mountains, many with quite daring and challenging locations.

People have been trekking through Hellesylt since the end of the last ice age according to historical research and one of the main routes for smugglers led trough this area. Tourists only began staying overnight in 1875, when the village’s first hotel was built. The village inspired the setting for Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen’s long and popular semi-dramatic poem “Brand.” Despite more than 200,000 tourists and 100 cruise ships visiting annually, Hellesylt has retained its idyllic charm.

Hellesylt is a rewarding place to visit and from there on you can take a ride with the touristic ferry to Geiranger along the Geirangerfjard, one of Norway´s most beautiful jfords.
